I would like to extend a warm welcome to all of the delegates, especially those of you that have gathered here from around the world.
I would like to start by sharing with you some thoughts on the subject of biodiversity and the human species. This planet is home to a myriad of life forms, all playing a role in the incredible ecosystem that sustains the environment. Each of these life forms has adapted its body in order to live in a particular biological niche and play that role. The more it has adapted to a particular environment, the more susceptible it is to any change of environment. There are many endangered species in the world. If each life form has a role to play, then no matter how tiny a creature it may be, its extinction from the earth signifies some change in our environment. Extinction is finite. The higher the position of the species in the food chain, the greater will be the impact of this extinction on the environment.
今日は観察発表もあると聞きました。最初に生物の多様性について一言お話 します。この地球はたくさんの生物の棲みかです。そしてすべての生物は役わ りをもっています。それぞれが進化と適応をしながら、豊かな生態系を織り成 してきました。それだけ多くのものが同じところに生活していれば、それぞれ の種は特殊化していきます。何らかの理由で環境が変わった場合には、特殊化 していればしているほど影響は受けやすいことになります。絶滅危惧種がたく さんいますが、すべての生物に役わりがあるということはどのように小さな生 物でもその生物が地球上からなくなることによって環境は変わるということで す。
The human species is the dominant species on earth. Instead of adapting its body, homo sapiens developed the brain and discovered fire, made tools, established efficient transportation methods and spread throughout the world. The whole world is our habitat, and we are therefore a major threat to all the other species for whom the biological niche is a small one. As the dominant species in the world, we have a responsibility to maintain the balance and harmony of the earth’s ecosystem. We must never forget that once it has been destroyed, it will have been destroyed forever.
１カ所に適応してしまった生物は、何か起こったときに非常に弱いと申し上 げました。適応能力がほかの生物よりすぐれていると考えることができる人間 は、自分たちが体を変えないで、脳を発達させ、火を使い、いろいろな道具を 作り、交通手段を考え出し、移動して、地球上全域に広がり、分布することが できました。人間は、自分たちの生息地を全世界と言えてしまいます。さて、 そうであるならば、我々人間には地球上のこの生態系を維持していく責任があ ります。自然が何万年もかけてつくり上げた生態系は種の宝庫であり、人間に とっても宝物です。壊してしまったら二度と元に戻すことは出来ません。
In 1992, the first Earth Summit was held in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil and the term sustainable development (sustainable use) was repeatedly broadcast throughout the whole world. We all know that the development since then has certainly not been sustainable! The next Earth Summit was in 2002, this time in Johannesburg, South Africa. It is now 6 years on. These meetings did raise much awareness, but the greatest and most frightening reason that environment has become such a relevant and major issue for all of us, is that we are now all seeing and feeling the effects of climate change in one form or other, some of us through experiencing natural disasters, but the luckier of us, by seeing such reports on television.
1992 年と2002 年に各国の代表が出席して、環境に関して議論する「地球サ ミット」が開かれました。最後のサミットからもう6 年も経ちます。私たちの 生活から排出される温室効果ガス、特に二酸化炭素の影響で、気候変動や温暖 化が進んでいます。今日、環境がここまで認知されるようになった最大の理由 は未然に環境の悪化を防ごうと呼びかける声ではなく、世界中の人々が実際に 温暖化がすすんだために起こっている自然災害を目の当たりにしているからで す。 国や国際団体、NGO, 企業や研究機関が組織的に果たす役割はとても大事で す。しかし、どの組織も、個人からつくり上げられているわけで、その中のひ とりひとり‐学校の先生も親も若者もこどもも‐が環境というものに対して、 自分が「何か」をしなければいけないという気持ちをもっていることが、環境 問題を解決していくのに必要だと思います。環境の悪化は「話題・問題・課題」 であり続けてきました。「話題・問題・課題」の段階から「実践・行動」へと早 く移ることを心から期待しています。みんなの将来のためにもすばらしい会議 となりますよう願っています。
The role played by states, international organisations, NGOs, industries and research institutions is, of course, an important one. However, every organisation consists of individuals. An organisation is not an entity capable of taking action of its own accord. It is imperative that each individual, and that includes parents, teachers, youth and children, takes it upon his or herself to “do something”. It must no longer just remain an issue, or a problem or something on the agenda. It is up to all of us, you and me, to take practical action.
For the sake of your future world, do speak up, loud and clear, and let us hope that the adult world will have the sense to take heed and listen.

Ich mo"chte alle der Delegierten herzlich willkommen hei?en, besonders die von euch, die sich hier aus der ganzen Welt versammelt haben. Ich mo"chte damit beginnen, mit euch einige Gedanken u"ber biologische Vielfalt und die menschliche Spezies zu teilen. Dieser Planet ist das Zuhause fu"r unza"hlige Lebensformen, alle spielen eine Rolle in dem unglaublichen O"kosystem, welches die Umwelt am Leben ha"lt. Alle diese Lebensformen haben sich angepasst, es ist keiner in Ordnung, der in einer speziellen biologischen Nische lebt und diese Rolle spielt. Mehr hat es sich gewandelt zu einer speziellen Umwelt, mehr ist es empfa"nglich fu"r jede A"nderung der Umwelt. Es gibt viele vom Aussterben bedrohte Arten auf dieser Welt. Wenn jede Lebensform eine Rolle zu spielen hat, dann ist egal wie klein sie sein mag.
Aussterben von der Erde zeigt einige Vera"nderungen in unserer Umwelt. Das Aussterben ist begrenzt. Je ho"her die Position der Spezies in der Nahrungskette ist, desto gro"?er werden die Auswirkungen des Aussterbens fu"r die Umwelt sein.
Die menschliche Spezies ist die dominierende Spezies auf der Erde, anstatt sich anzupassen ist sie das Haupt. Im Homo Sapiens entwickelte sich das Gehirn und er entdeckte das Feuer, erstellte Werkzeuge, schuf leistungsfa"hige Transportmethoden und verbreitete sich u"ber die Erde. Die ganze Erde ist unser Lebensraum und wir sind deshalb eine gro?e Gefahr fu"r alle anderen Spezies, fu"r die die biologische Nische eine kleine ist. Als die dominierende Spezies auf der Erde haben wir eine Verantwortung, um das Gleichgewicht und die Harmonie des irdischen O"ko- Systems aufrecht zu erhalten. Wir du"rfen nicht vergessen ist etwas einmal zersto"rt, wird es immer zersto"rt sein.
1992 fand der erste "Earth Summit“ in Rio de Janeiro in Brasilien statt und das Motto "nachhaltige Entwicklung“ wurde mehrfach u"ber die ganze Welt u"bertragen. Wir alle wissen, dass die Entwicklung seither nicht nachhaltig war. Der na"chste "Earth Summit“ war 2002, diesmal in Johannesburg in Su"d Afrika. Es ist jetzt 6 Jahre her. Diese Treffen schufen ein gro?es Bewusstsein, aber die gro"?te und erschreckendste Erkenntnis, wodurch die Umwelt zu solch einer wichtigen und relevanten Frage fu"r alle von uns wurde, ist, dass wir jetzt alle die Folgen von Klimawandel in der einen oder anderen Form sehen und fu"hlen, einige von uns durch die Erwartung von Naturkatastrophen die glu"cklicheren von uns durch das Sehen von Reportagen im Fernsehen.
Die Rolle, die Staaten, internationale Organisationen, NGO, Industrien und Forschungsinstitute spielen, ist natu"rlich eine Wichtige. Jedoch jede Organisation besteht aus Einzelnen. Eine Organisation ist keine Einheit, die in der Lage ist aus ihrer eigenen Vereinbahrung etwas zu unternehmen. Es ist erforderlich, dass jeder Einzelne, und das beinhaltet Eltern, Lehrer, Jugendliche und Kinder, es auf sich selbst nimmt etwas zu unternehmen. Es darf nicht la"nger nur eine bleibende Erkenntnis, ein Problem oder etwas auf der Tagesordnung bleiben. Es ist an uns, euch und mir, praktisch etwas zu unternehmen. Um eurer zuku"nftigen Erde willen, sagt eure Meinung laut und deutlich und lasst uns hoffen, dass die Welt der Erwachsenen den Verstand haben wird darauf zu achten und zuzuho"ren.

para el Medio Ambiente en Kobe

Me gustari'a dar una ca'lida bienvenida a todos los delegados, especialmente
aquellos de ustedes que nos hemos reunido aqui' procedentes de todo
el mundo.
Me gustari'a empezar por compartir con ustedes algunas reflexiones sobre
el tema de la biodiversidad y la raza humana. Este planeta es el hogar
de un sinnu'mero de formas de vida, todos desempen~an un papel increi'ble
en el ecosistema que sustenta el medio ambiente. Cada una de estas formas
de vida ha ido adaptando su cuerpo a fin de vivir en un
nicho biolo'gico y desempen~ar ese papel. Cuanto ma's se ha adaptado
a un entorno particular, lo ma's susceptible es a cualquier cambio del
medio ambiente. Hay muchas especies en peligro de extincio'n en el mundo.
Si cada forma de vida tiene un papel que desempen~ar,
entonces no importa que tan pequen~a sea una criatura, su extincio'n
de la tierra significa algu'n cambio en nuestro medio ambiente.
La extincio'n es finita. Cuanta ma's alta es la posicio'n de la especie
en la cadena alimentaria, mayor sera' el impacto de
esta extincio'n en el medio ambiente.
La especie humana es la especie dominante sobre la Tierra. En lugar
de adaptar su cuerpo, el homo sapiens desarrollo' el cerebro y descubrio'
el fuego, fabrico' herramientas, establecio' me'todos de transporte
eficientes y se propago' por todo el mundo. El mundo entero es nuestro
ha'bitat, y por lo tanto, una amenaza importante para todas las otras
especies para las cuales el nicho biolo'gico es pequen~o. Como la especie
dominante en el mundo, tenemos la responsabilidad de mantener el equilibrio
y la armoni'a del ecosistema de la Tierra. No debemos olvidar nunca
que una vez que ha sido destruido, sera' destruido para siempre.
En 1992, la primera Cumbre para la Tierra fue celebrada en Ri'o de Janeiro, Brasil, y el te'rmino desarrollo sustentable (uso eficaz) fue transmitido en repetidas ocasiones en todo el mundo. Todos sabemos que el desarrollo, desde entonces, desde luego, no ha sido eficaz! La pro'xima Cumbre de la Tierra fue en 2002, esta vez en Johannesburgo, Suda'frica. Hace 6 an~os. En estas reuniones se hizo elevar mucho la conciencia, pero la mayor y ma's alarmante razo'n por la que se ha convertido el medio ambiente en una cuestio'n importante para todos nosotros, es que ahora estamos viendo y sintiendo todos los efectos del cambio clima'tico de una forma u otra, algunos de nosotros a trave's de experimentar desastres naturales, pero los que tenemos ma's suerte, al ver esos informes en la televisio'n.
El papel desempen~ado por los estados, organizaciones internacionales,
organizaciones no gubernamentales, industrias e instituciones de investigacio'n
es, por supuesto, importante. Sin embargo, cada organizacio'n se compone
de las personas. Una organizacio'n no es una entidad capaz de actuar
por cuenta propia. Es imprescindible que cada individuo, y eso incluye
a padres, maestros, jo'venes y nin~os, lo tomen
como suyo el "hacer algo". Es preciso
que no so'lo siga siendo un tema, o un problema o algo en
la agenda del di'a. Depende de todos
nosotros, ustedes y yo, a que adoptemos medidas pra'cticas.
En aras de su mundo futuro, hagan uso de la palabra, alto y claro, y
esperemos que los adultos tengan el sentido comu'n para
tomarlo en cuenta y escuchar.

Presso il palazzo dei Congressi "Art Center" di Kobe (Giappone).
Vorrei dare un caloroso benvenuto a tutti i delegati, specialmente a quelli di loro che sono venuti da ogni parte del mondo.
Inizier? condividendo con voi qualche pensiero relativamente alla biodiversit? ed alla specie umana. Questo pianeta ? la casa di una miriade di forme di vita, tutte giocano un ruolo incredibile nel sostenere il nostro ecosistema e l’ambiente .Ogni forma di vita si ? adattata in un particolare ambiente e vive in una nicchia biologica ove gioca il suo ruolo. Tanto pi? si ? adattata ad un particolare ambiente , tanto pi? ? suscettibile a ogni piccolo cambiamento ambientale.
Ci sono molte speci in pericolo nel mondo. Se ogni forma di vita ha un ruolo da giocare , non importa quanto sia piccola questa creatura, ma la sua estinzione dalla terra , significa un qualche cambiamento per l’ambiente. Tanto pi? alta ? la posizione della specie nella catena del cibo, tanto maggiore sar? l’impatto di questa estinzione sull’ambiente.
La specie umana ? la specie dominante sulla terra. Invece che adattare il suo corpo, l’uomo sapiens ha sviluppato la mente e scoperto il fuoco, ha creato strumenti, stabilito efficienti mezzi di trasporto e li sparsi in tutto il mondo. Il mondo intero ? ora abitato , e noi siamo quindi la maggiore minaccia tra tutte le speci che invece hanno una loro piccola nicchia. Come specie dominante nel mondo , abbiamo la responsabilit? di mantenere l’armonia ed il giusto equilibrio , per l’ecosistema della terra. Non dobbiamo mai dimenticare che una volta che questa armonia sar? distrutta, essa lo sar? per sempre.
Nel 1992 il primo summit per l’ambiente si svolse a Rio de Janeiro, in Brasile , e il termine sviluppo sostenibile, fu ripetuto e trasmesso attraverso il mondo intero. Tutti noi sappiamo che da alloro lo sviluppo non ? certo stato sostenibile. Il secondo summit fu nel 2002 a Johannesburg, in Sud Africa. Sono passati 6 anni . Questi meeting hanno fatto crescere di molto la consapevolezza, ma il motivo per cui il problema ambientale ? divenuto uno dei maggiori argomenti di discussione per tutti noi, ? che tutti iniziamo a vedere con i cambiamenti climatici anche i grandi disastri ambientali , che molti sono stati costretti a subire, e che moltissimi hanno poi visto su televisioni e giornali.
Il ruolo giocato dagli stati, da organizzazioni internazionali, industrie e istituti di ricerca , organizzazioni non governative ? sicuramente importante. Ma ogni organizzazione ? fatta da individui e non puo’ prendere decisioni di sua spontanea volont?. E’ per questo imperativo che ogni uno di noi , genitori , insegnanti , giovani e bambini, prenda su di se la decisione di " Fare qualcosa". I problemi ambientali non posso restare pi? a lungo un argomento di discussione , o qualcosa da mettere in agenda. Ma ? nostro compito , tuo e mio , mettere in pratica azioni utili.
Per il futuro del nostro mondo, bisogna gridare ad alta voce, forte e chiaro, e speriamo che il mondo degli adulti, abbia il senso di responsabilit? e l’attenzione di ascoltare.
Vi auguro una conferenza piena di successo.

Gostaria de oferecer calorosas boas-vindas a todos os delegados, especialmente a aqueles que se reuniram aqui de diversas partes do mundo.
Gostaria de come?ar compartilhando com voc?s alguns pensamentos sobre o assunto de biodiversidade e a esp?cie humana.Este planeta ? lar para um grande n?mero de formas de vida, todas exercendo um papel no incr?vel ecossistema que sustenta o meio ambiente. Cada uma dessas formas de vida tem adaptado seu corpo para viver em um habitat biol?gico particular e desempenha aquele papel.Quanto mais ele se adapta a um ambiente particular, mais suscet?vel ele est? a qualquer mudan?a no ambiente. Existem muitas esp?cies em perigo no mundo.Cada forma de vida tem um papel e exercer, ent?o n?o importa qu?o pequena a criatura, sua fun??o para a terra significa alguma mudan?a em nosso meio ambiente.Extin??o ? finita.Quanto mais alta a posi??o das esp?cies na cadeia alimenta, maior ser? o impacto da extin??o no meio ambiente.
A esp?cie humana ? a dominante na terra.Ao inv?s de adaptar seu corpo, o homo sapiens desenvolveu o c?rebro e descobriu o fogo, criou ferramentas, estabeleceu m?todos de transporte eficiente e se espalhou ao redor do mundo.O mundo todo ? nosso habitat e somos, ent?o, uma amea?a maior para todas as esp?cies cujo habitat biol?gico ? pequeno. Sabemos que o desenvolvimento desde ent?o n?o tem sido sustent?vel! A Confer?ncia da Terra seguinte foi em 2002, desta vez em Johanesburgo, ?frica do Sul.Passaram-se seis anos.Estes encontros realmente promoveram consci?ncia, mas a maior e mais assustadora raz?o pela qual o meio ambiente tornou-se um assunto t?o relevante e importante para todos n?s, ? que estamos vendo e sentindo os efeitos da mudan?a no clima de uma forma ou outra.Alguns de n?s, por experimentar desastres naturais, mas os mais sortudos de n?s, por assistir tais reportagens na televis?o.
O papel desempenhado pelos governos, organiza??es internacionais, ONGs, ind?strias e institui??es de pesquisa e, com certeza, importante.Contudo, cada organiza??o consiste de indiv?duos.Uma organiza??o n?o ? uma entidade capaz de tomar a??es de acordo com seu livre arb?trio.? imperativo que cada indiv?duo , e isso inclui pais, professores, jovens e crian?as, tomem para si “fazer algo”.N?o deve mais apenas permanecer como um quest?o, ou um problema ou algo em uma agenda.Cabe a todos n?s, voc? e eu, tomar medidas pr?ticas.
Pelo bem do seu mundo futuro, se expresse ,alto e claro, e esperemos que o mundo adulto ter? a sensatez de prestar a aten??o e ouvir.
