Black-faced Spoonbill

I went to Tainan to visit the wetland and watch birds with my family on the weekend. The wetland keeps the best ecosystem for the birds. Our government paid more attention on ecology for years, and now we can see their effort.

Chiku Lagoon is a wetland of nature reserve, and there are many oyster gardeners raise oyster on the sea.

It’s a beautiful place, and also the largest sun-dried field for sea salts in Taiwan southwest coast. Currently it is the hottest scenic site; a lot of tourists come to the field year-round. It becomes a must visit place where visitors can climb the salt mountain, eat salty ice-lolly, and shop in gift stores. Most importantly, even the birds came for reproducing the babies.

Black-faced spoonbill comes to Taiwan for breeding the new generations every winter. There are 2065 Black-faced Spoonbill in the whole world this year, and we found over 1030 in Taiwan, especially in the wetland of Chiku Lagoon. We can say it is the busiest place for the winter stop of Black-faced Spoonbill.  We are so glad that they choose Taiwan to be their transit stop, and it is obvious that we have improved our environment, so that they are willing to raise their babies in Taiwan.

I’ll keep reporting this great news.
